LEARN MORE

Immersive, Experiential Learning

Prescott College is a one-of-a-kind liberal arts college dedicated to immersive experiential learning while focused on cultivating capable, action-oriented community members within a small, tight-knit community.  Our curriculum is interdisciplinary with Competencies (majors) that encourage students to work across disciplines using transdisciplinary action to solve global and local challenges.  Our students learn in field-based settings (schools, non-profits, remote wilderness) to situate their learning in appropriate contexts, leaving them with real, hands-on, resume-worthy experience

Hampshire students’ self-directed work is highly valued and will continue at Prescott College. Our own students are required to engage in internships, service learning, and each completes a capstone Senior Project.  Experiential learning is our pedagogy from day one to graduation. Hampshire students may find transferring to Prescott to complete a BAS in Interdisciplinary Studies as the most streamlined and congruent degree path from their Liberal Studies coursework and experiences.

Transfer Your Credits to One of Our Programs

While all students must earn 120 credits for a Bachelor’s degree at Prescott College, each of our majors constitutes only about 1/3rd of that total 120 credit requirement.  This allows students to design a unique path with double majors, additional concentrations, certificate programs, or simply to combine transferred Hampshire courses and experiences with PC courses that speak to their learning goals.  Our competences (majors) are;

Adventure Education - 44 credits

Critical Social Justice and Solidarity - 40 credits

Environmental Humanities - 40 credits

Field Ecology and Conservation - 48 credits

Psychology - 40 credits

Interdisciplinary Studies - 40 credits

Location and Community

Prescott College is located in central Arizona at a mile high elevation, just 90 miles from both Phoenix and Flagstaff.  It is a destination location but also is very livable with supermarkets and select big box stores.

The campus resides downtown and boasts both historic and LEED-certified buildings, including townhouses for student living, a learning commons (library), cafe, gardens, and centers for social action and sustainability initiatives. Our hearty fleet of vans allows students to learn outside the traditional classroom (though we do have IT-equipped classrooms) in the human and natural communities in Prescott and beyond.  All first-year students live on campus. Returning students often choose to live in the “Village” as well, though others rent shared housing locally.

Prescott offers over 400 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails, and myriad opportunities for kayaking, rock climbing, and other outdoor pursuits. The closest major skiing to Prescott, AZ, is Arizona Snowbowl in Flagstaff, located approximately 2 hours from campus.  We enjoy all Four Seasons with an average of 277 days of sunshine.
